SOSVA initiated its support service activities for other NGOs through useful training workshops on subjects such as accounts writing, calculations, etc. To further support the capacities of social service organizations, the SOSVA Training and Promotion Institute (STAPI) was formed in 2001. It promotes and strengthens the contribution of other NGOs working for the upliftment of the underprivileged. In the synergy of core values-service, volunteerism, and professionalism, SOSVA aims at creating a strong voluntary sector through Training, Documentation, and Research. The government of India has shown appreciation to SOSVA for highlighting the concept of ‘Mother NGO’ which involves the collection and distribution of funds to other NGOs working towards the betterment of society.
SOSVA plays a critical role in resolving and supporting several developmental issues of different NGO’s. Backed by the power of volunteerism and a strong nexus with government and Non-government organizations, SOSVA has successfully accomplished many developmental goals since 1984. Today it continues to relentlessly serve the NGO sector meeting the needs of underprivileged and marginalized groups. Project COVID 19- Food for Survival, was initiated by SOSVA with the primary objective of supporting the migrant laborers and their families to maintain good health and immunity by providing them with nutritious food during the pandemic lockdown. It involved sourcing essential groceries and delivering them to the needy.
The Menstrual Hygiene Project was launched by SOSVA in 2019 with the primary objective of bringing about changes in the attitudes and practices about menstruation amongst adolescent girls in the age group of 10-18 years . The core of this project involves facilitation of workshops creating awareness on Menstrual Health, make reproductive hygiene education a part of the school curriculum, to remove taboos surrounding the subject, and to make available hygienic and economical sanitary supplies for underprivileged school girls. Menstruation Hygiene continues being the focus for SOSVA with an estimate of reaching out to more than 50,000 beneficiaries in the near future.
